This study is about the teacher perspective on digital distance education during the pandemic, with a focus on students in mathematics difficulties. Through the study, we get an insight into what seven teachers have experienced, as well as what thoughts they have about mathematics teaching, the digital tools and the general challenges associated with digital distance education. The following issue was raised; How have the conditions for learning been for students in math difficulties during the pandemic? The theory is taken from a selection of books, articles, and reports related to various topics such as math difficulties, communication, digital tools and resources, previous research and digital distance learning. Through the study, I find that the conditions for learning seem to have changed for the informants’ students in mathematics difficulties. The students in mathematics difficulties who were part of the regular class composition have to a greater extent been left to themselves and as a result become initiators in the communication with the teacher. Those who had special education had been facilitated in various ways according to this study. One group with special education only had written communication with the teacher in addition to teaching videos, another group was in constant dialogue with their teacher and in the latter the students were called one by one to receive instructions and help. The study tries to come up with solutions to challenges related to what could have been good teaching practices in periods of digital distance education, with a focus on students with mathematics difficulties. Good digital distance education requires that the teaching is action-oriented, interactive, and attention-intensive. Some ways to achieve this can be by varying the teaching, ensuring a lower threshold in communication, and ensuring collaboration. By varying the teaching, you will ensure that the students do not experience the teaching as uninteresting, something several informants state that the students experienced the teaching as. Various proposals for varied teaching are about various online mathematics-specific resources, the use of video games in teaching, and learning videos.
