Teachers' job demands and resources can have a crucial impact on a school's ability to retain teachers.
Analyses of Talis 2018 data from 24 European countries using the Job Demands and Resources model
showed that a safe school climate, and a collaborative and participative school culture were the main job
resources, whereas feelings of distress and perceived barriers for professional development were the
main job demands. Findings were similar for teachers at different stages in their careers, but differed for
satisfaction with their school, career choice and the teaching profession in general.
