Abstract
This is a bachelor's thesis about voluntary organizations' impact on public policy and society. The thesis illustrates how voluntary organizations promote their interests, what channels they use and how their impact works. First, the thesis looks at how the organizations work and what challenges they face. Then the thesis looks at how organizations use the Internet and social media to promote their interests. Furthermore, the thesis looks at the organizations' contact with public authorities and what they get from this contact. Finally, the thesis asks if it is the formal or the informal channels that are more effective to be seen and heard as an organization. The thesis is based on qualitative interviews with informants from three national patient and user organizations, as well as relevant theory and previous research in the field.
