Riddles are texts with certain features in common, but with an extraordinary diversity regarding linguistic characteristics. The riddles in the article hail from literature, oral tradition and an educational context. They all demonstrate the versatility, flexibility and utility of language. Linguistic phenomena, ranging from phonetics and morphology to speech acts and adjacency pairs, find their counterparts in riddles, showing how language experiences through riddles are ideal for language sensitivity training.
