Master i barnehagepedagogikken_US
dc.description.abstractphenomenology. The first initial period, the transition or adjustment is in Norwegian called ”tilvenning”. The purpose of the study is to explore the concept of “tilvenning” in kindergarten (barnehage) as phenomena through a theoretical and empirical exploration. The theoretical exploration reflects upon how “tilvenning” has been inscribed, in connection with literature and research in the early childhood education and care field, regarding the youngest children. The empirical exploration reflects upon how some preschool teachers working with 1-3 year old children tell about “tilvenning”. Group conversations are the chosen method and two group conversations have been conducted in the same urban area of Oslo. How we think of “tilvenning” will influence what we may see as possibilities and how “tilvenning” is practised or come to practice. The theoretical exploration may indicate that “tilvenning” has been inscribed in attachment theory and research, but there are identified some exceptions. It appears that the dyad between child and adult has been emphasized, and that might have contributed to a focus on the child as vulnerable. A change of paradigm in the view of the child, where the child as a subject arises, is being presented. The concepts being and becoming, from the early childhood studies of sociology, might represent different views of the child. The child’s and other children’s contributions seem to get little attention in connection with attachment theory and research and are rarely mentioned in connection with “tilvenning”. Parts of a phenomenology of the body are made as an understanding of children and adults and may be seen as a way of balancing some of the asymmetrical relationship between child and adult. The Norwegian curriculum (Framework Plan for the Content and Task of Kindergartens) tells nothing about “tilvenning” in particular, and also very little about the youngest children, but are made more visible in Norwegian Governments official reports (NOU 2012:1) and the white paper no.24 (Meld. St. 24 (2012-2013), 2013). The empirical exploration is being presented through quotes from the group conversations, which are divided into three main categories, which are further divided into three subcategories. The three main categories, with subcategories, are: 1. The preschool teacher: primary caregiver, body and bodily subject and theoretical foundation. 2. The view of the child: age, language and other children. 3. Some external factors: the length of the adjustment, plans and the physical environment. The categories are derived from findings and used to create a width in the exploration of “tilvenning”. The findings from the group conversations indicate that the preschool teachers have a wider approach and theoretical foundation to “tilvenning” than attachment theory, but their theoretical foundations are verbally limited. Children as speakers of minority languages emerge from the material. The preschool teachers refer to their own and the children’s experiences, in addition to individual differences, as an important contribution to how they think about “tilvenning” and how it comes to practise. Parents’ leave of absence seems to influence the length of the adjustment. The physical environment in view of the toodleres and attachment theory are looked upon. Findings from both the theoretical and empirical explorations are discussed and further examined. Possible expansions of the concept “tilvenning” are being presented. In this way, possible new areas of research to come are being displayed.en_US
