Abstract

This master thesis was written at the Department of Product Design, at Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences (HiOA) during spring 2015. The goal has been to create better solutions for equipment for fire detection.

The main focus is the meeting point between functionality and ease of use, and how it can be shown more consideration for all types of users. During the project I have been in dialogue with users and experts who are familiar with the different aspects in different ways.

The insight I have acquired along the way has been examined, analyzed and discussed to map the current situation and uncover problems and potentials that can be improved.

The result is an innovative, user-friendly solution that challenges existing norms for the design of equipment for fire detection. Why should the smoke detector be unavailable for the user if you can bring it down to their level?
