This study has investigated the effects of scaled distance, façade thickness, Young’s modulus and density on the reaction forces of a façade element subjected to blast load, and to what extent an empirical equation can predict the response. The parametric study is done using numerical analyses. Curve fitting is used on the results of the numerical analyses, to find the empirical equation. It is shown that the response of the system is highly dependent on both stiffness and mass of the system in addition to the scaled distance. The results also showed that it is possible to express the response by a simple, yet, accurate empirical equation, which can be useful for an early design stage. However, more detailed equations describing the response is also suggested. The results in this thesis may function as a preliminary study or building block for further research, for example to develop design guidelines for blast resistant structures.en_US
