Mutual school-home collaboration and inclusion of all parents in the pupils learning and school life, stands as disciplinarian goals in the Norwegian School System. Researchers, such as Professor Thomas Nordahl, writes about the importance of parent’s involvement in the kids schooling and stresses the teacher’s responsibility to build relations with all parents. Diversity in ethnicity, culture, religion, class, gender and sexual orientation is descriptive for the population of the schools in most parts of Norway. Although, the focus in literature and science projects about the facing of multiculturalism and diversity in Norwegian schools mostly concerns the central parts of Norway. This thesis tries to examine the teacher-home collaboration in the rural areas in Norway, who are facing an increased number of migrant pupils and therefor also a “new” composition of pupils and parent’s in the schools. The aim of this thesis was to find out what importance the school-home collaboration could make in the inclusion processes for the new families both in school and in the local communities. This, I present on the grounds of qualitative interviews with six teachers and school leaders on three different rural district schools. A common denominator for all schools is that they during the past five years have welcomed newly arrived migrant pupils that lives in reception centres. My informants describe a restructuring process in the school-home collaboration when meeting with the new population of the school. They also stress the need for customization of plans, routines and school’s earlier pedagogy. They address their new need and the adaption process of using educational and pedagogical aids, such as interpreters in communication with the pupil’s parents. I discuss the above factors and the informant’s stories up against theoretical framework on multicultural competence, investment projects in the diversity field in Norway and the teacher’s professional competence. Regardless, the interviews show that the newly arrived families status and living arrangements makes it difficult for the school’s attempts at social inclusion both in the school and in the local community. The need of inter-professional collaborations, and teachers looking outside of their own profession to be able to do the best job possible, in this, for them, new situation, is discussed in light of theory on inter-professional collaboration, the schools and teachers mandate and the fact that different professions have access to different recourses. Because of the small number of informants in this study it does not provide ground for generalization. Anyway, in my opinion, the discussions and presentations of my findings combined with the theoretical framework, could contribute to promote the importance of further discussions on this theme in the field.en
