tema for oppgaven. Empirien er en doktorgradsavhandling av Sveinung Horverak (2006):
Hvordan opplever ungdom å delta i familieråd?
samfunnsperspektivet. Perspektivet blir barnevernet som aktør i stedet for barnet som
aktør. Ungdommenes stemmer blir undertrykket.
This thesis is about language in the terms of working with a text, in the form of
communication. How can the language in the text express other meanings than what we
wish to pass on? Witch hidden power can be in the text? What kind of consequences can
it give? Language and power is the theme for this thesis. The empirical data is based on a
dissertation of Sveinung Horverak (2006): How do young people experience taking part
in Family group conference? A contribution to the work with the ethics of the Child
Social Services and the discussion about the role of the Child Social Services in the
society. The dissertation is about Family group conference, a method that is used in the
Child Social Services. The aim is here to let children, their parents and other family
members be a part of problem-solving processes. Horverak has interviewed 20 young
people in the age of 13-21 years old. Horverak’s view is that the Family group conference
is a method that are empowering the private actors and reducing the power of the Child
Social Services. The question I highlight the reality of the empowerment as intended, or is
it just another way of using power.
The problem for discussion is: How does the dissertation reproduce some of the
discourses that the author says he takes distance from? I ask questions to the text about
witch discourses are present and how are they shown in the text, what does the text lift up
and what does it oppressor and what kinds of contrasts are found in the text. In this thesis
I have chosen a textual analysis method called deconstruction from Jacques Derrida. This
method is about having a critical view to look for the contrasts in the text and the breaks
in the argumentation. In addition to the theory of Derrida, I have also used the theories of
Pierre Bourdieu and Michael Foucault about their concepts of power, close related to the
power of language and science. I have chosen for analyzing his ten theses which are in his
concluding chapter. The concept I use in this context is about perspective, the Family
group conference as a subject, paternalism, used metaphors and how he writes about the
voices of the minority and the national differences. The analyze shows that the Child
perspective is the loser in the competition with institutional society perspective. The
perspective is more like the Child Social Services as an actor instead of the child as an
actor. The young people’s voices are being oppressed. The method Family group
conference represents a democratic language with concepts as given power and transfer
power, but this is a rhetorical presentation where the deconstruction takes it apart from
each other. The language of power changes, but the power is unchanged
