Business as Usual? - Hvordan kultivere økoliteracy i grunnskolefaget Kunst og håndverk og valgfaget Design og redesign?
Abstract
Derfor her jeg arbeidet
utfra problemstillingen:
økoliteracy i grunnskolens klasserom.
systemisk tenkning vært rammene for fagdidaktiske refleksjoner.
dagens skole. This master´s thesis examines the possibilities for cultivating ecoliteracy through the school
subject Art and Crafts and the optional subject Design and Redesign. Ecoliteracy can be
described as our understanding of how Nature sustains life and the ability to live and act
accordingly. In light of global climate issues and the Earths ecological condition, I attempt to
look into what these subjects can comprise. Based on this, my question for this enquiry is:
How to cultivate ecoliteracy in the school subject Art and Crafts and the optional subject
Design and Redesign?
In order to gain some answers I have interviewed subject teachers and persons with a strong
connection to the field, as well as art and crafts education. Based on the subject’s traditions and
practical framework, via discussion and interpretation of the interview material and various
steering documents, I have attained a few themes. These themes are selected with the
possibilities for implementing ecoliteracy with the Art and Crafts classroom in mind.
Social constructionism has been the scientific theoretical basis, moreover eco-philosophy and
systems thinking have been the framework for reflections on Art and Crafts education. My hope
has been to see the subject in a bigger picture and social context related to our ability to inhabit
the world, and to strengthen the relevance of the subjects. My conclusion is that the subject´s
tradition of practical creative work, working with materials and our visual environment, is a
nutritious fertile ground for cultivating ecoliteracy in schools today.
