Kontaktbibliotekarens rolle: En kvalitativ studie av kontaktbibliotekarers arbeid i norske høyere utdanningsinstitusjoner.

Abstract

Denne masteroppgaven utforsker rollen som kontaktbibliotekarer i norske høyere utdanningsinstitusjoner, med fokus på hvordan arbeids- og utdanningsbakgrunn samt arbeidsorganisering påvirker deres arbeid. Studien ble motivert av behovet for samkjøring av praksisen ved forfatterens arbeidsplass. Gjennom en kvalitativ intervjuundersøkelse undersøkte forfatteren faktorer som påvirker kontaktbibliotekarrollen og betydningen av arbeids- og utdanningsbakgrunn samt arbeidsorganisering i forhold til rollen. Relevant teori og tidligere forskning ble brukt som rammeverk for studien, og funnene fra datainnsamlingen støttet opp under teorien i passelig grad. Resultatene viser at både arbeids- og utdanningsbakgrunn og arbeidsorganisering spiller en betydelig rolle for kontaktbibliotekarrollen. En kombinasjon av formell bibliotekkompetanse, relevant faglig kunnskap, tverrfaglighet og erfaring bidrar til å styrke kontaktbibliotekarenes evne til å møte brukernes behov. Videre viser studien at en fleksibel og støttende arbeidsorganisering, inkludert samarbeidet mellom kontaktbibliotekarene og forskere/faglige ansatte, er avgjørende for at kontaktbibliotekarene kan utføre sin rolle effektivt. Ledelsesstøtte og anerkjennelse av kontaktbibliotekarenes rolle er også viktig for å sikre en optimal arbeidsorganisering. Studiens funn er begrenset til denne spesifikke konteksten og organisasjonen, og betydningen av arbeids- og utdanningsbakgrunn samt arbeidsorganisering kan variere avhengig av ulike kontekster. Likevel gir studien verdifull innsikt i viktige faktorer som påvirker kontaktbibliotekarrollen og kan bidra til å informere praksis og videre forskning på området. Forslaget om å gjennomføre en lignende studie med et annet teoretisk rammeverk åpner for muligheten til å ytterligere utforske og utvide kunnskapen om kontaktbibliotekarrollen.

This master's thesis explores the role of liaison librarians in Norwegian higher education institutions, focusing on how work and educational background, as well as work organisation, affects their work. The study was motivated by the need to coordinate practice at the author's workplace. Through a qualitative interview survey, the author investigated factors that influence the liaison librarian role and the importance of work and educational background, as well as work organisation in relation to the role. Relevant theory and previous research were used as a framework for the study, and the findings from the data collection supported the theory to an appropriate extent. The results show that both work and educational background and work organisation play a significant role in the role of a liason librarian. A combination of formal library expertise, relevant professional knowledge, interdisciplinarity and experience helps strengthen the liaison librarians' ability to meet users' needs. Furthermore, the study shows that a flexible and supportive work organisation, including collaboration between contact librarians and researchers/academic staff, is essential for contact librarians to perform their role effectively. Management support and recognition of the role of contact librarians are also important to ensure an optimal organisation of work. The study's findings are limited to this specific context and organisation, and the significance of work and educational background as well as work organisation may vary depending on different contexts. Nevertheless, the study provides valuable insight into important factors influencing the role of liaison librarian and can help inform practice and further research in the field. The proposal to conduct a similar study with a different theoretical framework opens up the opportunity to further explore and expand knowledge about the role of liaison librarian
