Sammendrag
The purpose of this study was to investigate if political skill moderates the relationship
between leader-member-exchange relationships (LMX) and the experience of motivational
climate. Research has divided LMX into two different directions, social (SLMX) and economic
(ELMX), in addition to motivational climate being divided into mastery climate and
performance climate. According to previous research, we had an assumption that social LMX
was related to mastery climate, and that economic LMX was related to performance climate.
Political skill as a moderator was tested in both cases. In line with our expectations, we found
that there is a positive relationship between both SLMX and mastery climate, and ELMX and
performance climate. Political skill had no moderating effect on either of the connections.
However, we found by supplying analyzes that political skill has a moderating effect on the
relationship between ELMX and mastery climate, which was not expected. Higher political
skill makes leaders more capable of making ELMX increase the experience of a mastery
climate, than leaders with lower political skill.
