Samtidsdansen og den selvskrevne teksten: En undersøkelse av dansekunstnerens og publikums utfordringer i møte med den utvidete danseforestillingen

Abstract

Denne masteroppgaven undersøker hvilke utfordringer som kan oppstå når en samtidsdanser kombinerer selvskrevet tekst og bevegelse i en danseforestilling. Masterprosjektet tar utgangspunkt i to egenproduserte forestillinger, og undersøkelsen kategoriseres derfor som kunstbasert forskning. Oppgavens teoretiske grunnlag omhandler formidling gjennom samtidsdans og bevegelse, formidling gjennom ord og tekst, samt kommunikasjon med publikum. Gjennom kvalitativt forskningssintervju med tre skapende dansekunstnere, kontekstualiseres tematikken ytterligere. Drøfting av utvalgte eksempler fra forestillingene sett i lys av teori og empiri, fremhever utfordringer som kan oppstå i arbeidet med den utvidete danseforestillingen. Utfordringer knyttet til arbeid med selvskrevet tekst og bevegelse drøftes separat. Deretter fremheves særlige utfordringer som oppstår i kombinasjonen av uttrykkene. Til slutt drøftes utfordringer knyttet til formidlingen til og kommunikasjonen med publikum. Gjennom masterprosjektet ønsker jeg å problematisere og utvikle den kunstneriske praksisen, samt å dokumentere og drøfte de intervjuede dansekunstnerne og min utøvende erfaring i en akademisk kontekst.

This Master’s thesis explore which challenges can occur when a contemporary dancer combines self-written text and movement in a dance performance. The project is based on two solo productions and is therefore categorized as art-based research. The theoretical foundation of the master’s thesis focuses on how to create and express through contemporary dance and movement, how to convey through words and texts, and lastly on communication with the audience. Through qualitative research interviews with three contemporary dancers, the research question is further contextualised. Considering the theoretical and empirical foundation, chosen examples from the two dance performances is debated, to further specify which challenges may occur in the process of making the extended dance performance. Challenges regarding the work with self-written text and movement is first highlighted separately. Thereafter challenges concerning the combination of the two is brought to attention. Lastly the challenges linked to communicating with the audience is debated. Through this master’s thesis I seek to problematize and develop the artistic practice. I also wish to document and debate both the interviewed dancers and my own practical knowledge in an academic context.
