The Norwegian Dental Technology Program at Oslo Metropolitan University, conducted a market research among all 208 registered domestic dental technology companies in 2018. The objective of the web-based survey was to map corporate structure, range of products, use of conventional versus digital production techniques, needed competency and expertise. The purpose is targeting the content and organization of the study program in line with the mission in society, and the authorized Bachelor candidates’ relevance for the labor market. This study will therefore influence on the development of new Dental Technology Program based on national guidelines. Survey results showed increasing digital manufacturing methods. Regarding fixed prosthodontics, it appears that computer aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) processes largely replace conventional methods such as waxing and casting. Most commonly, milled full ceramics and metal-ceramic substructures for crowns and bridges are manufactured by CAD/CAM. Nevertheless, the quantity of removable prostheses production is still substantial, and the associated work processes are mainly carried out by conventional manual techniques. According to the informants, they also experience increased patient consulting regarding determination of restoration color and design, and eventually procedures as taking impression, jaw registration and try-in of dental prosthodontics
