Mellom etikken og dramatikken: Etiske dilemma i bearbeidelsen av migranters livsfortellinger til en figurteaterforestilling

Abstract

Denne undersøkelsen henvender seg til dem som er interessert i kunstnerisk arbeid med utgangpunkt i andre menneskers livsfortellinger. Relevansen kan slik gjelde både for individer innen det anvendte teaterfeltet og institusjonsteatre. Gjennom en refleksiv praksis der intervju dannet grunnlaget for en kunstbasert undersøkelse, har tre migranters livsfortellinger blitt bearbeidet til etnoteater i form av en figurteaterforestilling. I arbeidet møttes flere etiske utfordringer som fikk konsekvenser både for informanter, manusarbeid og iscenesettelse. Dette skriftlige arbeidet sentrerer seg derfor rundt etiske dilemma i den kunstneriske skapelsesprosessen sett i lys av teaterfaglige og etiske perspektiver. Dilemmaene som framstod som særlig utfordrende i var 1: Skulle livsfortellingene slås sammen eller ei, etter en informants bekymringsmelding om identifisering gjennom forestillingen? 2: Balansegangen mellom hensynet til informantenes livsfortellinger og hensynet til dramatikken i skapelsen av et nytt etnodrama. 3: Skulle vi anvende en informants traume om flukt? Og i så fall; hvordan skulle det iscenesettes? 4: Hvem kunne representere karakterene når etnisk norske kvinner skulle formidle en faksjonsbasert historie om flukt? Som en avsluttende refleksjon diskuteres det om tilskuerne under forestillingen kunne erfare et møte med en opplevd annen.

This study is aimed at those who are interested in creating artistic works based upon the life stories of others. The relevance of this study can thus be applied both to individuals within the field of applied theatre and institutional theatres. Through a reflexive practice in which interviews formed the basis for an art-based study, three immigrants’ life stories have been adapted into ethnotheater in the form of a puppet performance. In this process we faced several ethical challenges that had consequences for informants, script and staging. This written thesis therefore focuses on ethical dilemmas in the artistic process, in light of theatrical and ethical perspectives. The dilemmas that emerged as particularly challenging were 1: Whether the life stories should be merged or not, following an informant’s concerns regarding identification through the performance. 2: The balance between the consideration of the informants’ life stories and the consideration of dramatic aspects in writing a new ethnodrama. 3: Whether or not to apply an informant’s various traumas of flight and if so; how it should be staged. 4: Who could represent the different characters when ethnic Norwegian women were to convey a faction-based story of a refugee’s escape. As a final reflection it is discussed whether the audience during the performance could experience a meeting with a perceived other.
