Bruk av mobiltelefon og sosiale medier i moderne institusjonsarbeid. «Hvordan bruker sosialarbeidere sin private mobiltelefon og sosiale medier i arbeidet med enslige mindreårige flyktninger?»

Abstract

Denne masteroppgaven omhandler sosialarbeidere og deres bruk av mobiltelefon og sosiale medier i moderne institusjonsarbeid. Jeg har valgt å fokusere på ansatte ved botiltak for enslige mindreårige flyktninger og deres bruk av sin private mobiltelefon og sosiale medier i deres arbeid. Oppgavens problemstilling er: Hvordan bruker sosialarbeidere sin private mobiltelefon og sosiale medier i arbeidet med enslige mindreårige flyktninger? Målet med oppgaven er å finne ut hvordan de faktisk bruker det og hvor går grensen for kontakt? Hvor slutter jobben og hvor begynner privatlivet? Som sosialarbeider i botiltak for enslige mindreårige flyktninger arbeider man tett på etikk og tett på relasjoner. Jeg var nysgjerrig på den etiske grensesonen for kontakt med ungdommene gjennom bruk av mobiltelefonen og sosiale medier. Det empiriske materialet består av 3 fokusgruppeintervjuer med 10 ansatte fra to ulike kommuner i Norge. To grupper med 3 ansatte og en gruppe med 4 ansatte fra botiltak for enslige mindreårige flyktninger. Analysen av datamaterialet viser variasjon og likheter hos de ansatte og deres tanker og erfaringer rundt bruken av deres private mobiltelefon og sosiale medier i arbeidet med ungdommene. De ansatte forteller om utfordringer ved bruken, men også hvordan det benyttes som et verktøy og i relasjonsbyggingen. De ansatte diskuterer hvordan det påvirker omsorgsrollen ovenfor ungdommene, og det kommer tydelig frem at de ansatte har ulike tanker rundt dette. Det var ulike meninger om hvor langt man skulle ta ungdommene inn i privatlivet sitt, og hvor grensen skulle gå. I botiltakene er det lite regler og retningslinjer om disse forholdene, som de ansatte kan støtte seg på. I intervjuene kom det frem at de ansatte er alltid opptatt av beboerens beste, og at man må stå inne for den relasjonen man legger opp til.

This master thesis is focused on social workers in modern institutions and their use of mobil phone and social media. More specifically on social workers, that are employed at refugee homes for unaccompanied minor refugees, and their use of private cell phones and social media in their job with the youth. The goal of this research paper is to determine how employees actually use it, and where is the limit for contact with this group of people they are working with. Where does the job end and where does personal life begin? As a social worker at a refugee home for unaccompanied minors, one works closely with the topic of ethics and interpersonal relationships. I was curious about the ethical borderline for keeping in touch with the youth through mobile phone and social media. The empirical data is consistent of 3 focus group interviews with 10 employees from two different municipalities in Norway. Two groups with 3 employees and a group of 4 employees working at refuge homes for unaccompanied minor refugees. The data analysis shows a variation and similarities of the employees and their thoughts and experiences regarding the use of their cellphones and social media in their work. The employees talk about the challenges they face because of social media, but also how it is used as a tool in the relationship building. The employees talk about how it affects the relationship with the minors, and it is clear that they have different opinions about this issue. There were also different opinions about how much one should integrate the children into one’s own personal life and where one should draw the line. Currently, there are very few rules and guidelines about this issue, that the employees can rely on. During the interviews, it became clear that the children’s best interest was of uttermost importance for the social workers and that one must always stand by the relationship one is building up.
