Folkebibliotekets roller - en casestudie

Abstract

Denne oppgaven skal gi svar på problemstillingen: Hvilke holdninger har politikere og ledere i Ski kommune til bibliotekets rolle i lokalsamfunnet? For å finne svar på dette ble det gjennomført kvalitative intervjuer med lokalpolitikere og kommunale ledere. Funnene er analysert i lys av tidligere forskning og fireromsmodellen, som deler bibliotekets roller inn i læringsrommet, inspirasjonsrommet, møterommet og det performative rom. Funnene sammenfaller i stor grad med tidligere forskning på fagfeltet og viser at ledere og lokalpolitikere har mange av de samme holdningene til bibliotek. Kunnskapsrommet anses av mange som bibliotekets viktigste oppgave, men møterommet blir vektlagt i stadig større grad. Kommunestyrets vedtak om flytting av Ski bibliotek ble begrunnet i økonomi, et ønske om avstand til det kommersielle storsenteret, byutvikling og samlokalisering med kulturskole og videregående skole. Funnene viser at lederne og politikerne forventer at samlokaliseringen vil gi samarbeid på tvers av virksomheter og god ressursutnyttelse ved sambruk av lokalene.

This study will provide answers to this issue: What kind of attitudes does politicians and leaders in Ski municipality display towards the role of the public library in the local community? In search of answers there were conducted qualitative interviews with local politicians and municipal leaders. The results have been analysed in light of previous research and the four-space-model, that separates the roles of the library into the learning space, the inspiration space, the performative space and the meeting space. The results coincide to a great extent with previous research in this field of study, and shows that leaders and local politicians share many of the same attitudes towards the library. The learning space is considered by many to be the most important task of the library, but the meeting space has also been given an increasing amount of consideration. The council’s decision concerning the relocation of Ski library was based on economics, a desire to separate it from the shopping centre, urban development and to locate it together with the school of culture and the high school. The results show that leaders and politicians expects this joint housing to provide cooperation between different departments and a healthy use of resources by sharing the same building.
