Master i estetiske fagen_US
This thesis directs its focus towards knowledge and attitudes surrounding Art and Crafts taught in schools. To understand why the situation around Arts and Crafts is like it is, I will base my findings on a case study conducted at a primary school, where I have arrived at the following point of discussion: Which causes lie behind the formation of opinions about Art and Crafts taught in primary schools? Critical realism as both a theoretical framework and scientific standpoint provides the basis of the study's questions, research strategy and explanatory perspective. The first part of the study is illuminated by an interview-based investigation performed on a selection of staff working at a school in the Østlandet district. Their statements are presented thematically, based on what they have to say about organization of the teaching profession, subject competence, relevance, status, attitudes towards the subject and their personal experience in "Arts and Craft". Four topics have been selected for discussion, based on some of the trends I uncover in my conversations with the staff at the school. I am looking to understand why the situation is such and discuss possible explanations which give rise to the statements given by the staff. The questions handled are: What challenges is the field of Art en Design didactics fronted with? How do schools exploit the possibilities given by the administrative and resource frameworks related to arts and crafts? Is everyone able to work in arts and crafts, the way it is stipulated in the governing guidelines? The purpose is to create a basis for discussion and begin strengthening the subject "Art and Crafts" in schools.en_US
