Ungdoms fritid : et kvantitativt studie av ungdoms egne begrunnelser for sin deltakelse på åpne møteplasser

Abstract

Denne masteroppgaven handler om ungdoms egne begrunnelser for deltakelse på åpne møteplasser. Valg av tema har utgangspunkt i en personlig interesse for arbeid med ungdom, og interesse for å belyse et tema innen sosialt arbeid som ikke tidligere forskning har dekket. Problemstillingen som arbeidet har tatt utgangspunkt i lyder: ”Hva er det ved åpne møteplasser som gjør at ungdom opprettholder sin deltakelse? Hva gir ungdom selv som begrunnelser for sin deltakelse innen aspektene som omhandler deres fritidsplassering, det relasjonelle- og det aktivitetsmessige aspektet?” Det empiriske materialet baseres på datainnsamling gjennom kvantitativ metodebruk. Spørsmålene ble stilt i form av et spørreskjema, og dataene ble samlet inn ved hjelp av QuestBack. Det teoretiske materialet til prosjektet baserer seg på fire områder: en vitenskapsteoretisk plassering, teori omkring metodebruken, teori om temaet, og tidligere forskning. Forståelsen av temaet baserer seg på en sosialkonstruksjonistisk tanke om ungdom og utvikling. Metodebruken plasserer seg vitenskapsteoretisk i Poppers deduktive tilnærming. Teori og tidligere forskning om temaet samles rundt tre kategorier; plassering av ungdoms fritidsbruk, det relasjonelle- og det aktivitetsmessige aspektet i ungdoms fritid. Analysen og drøftingen ser disse kategoriene opp mot lengde på deltakelse, kjønn og alder. Analysen av dataene og den følgende drøftingen viser innenfor noen av aspektene det samme som tidligere forskning, mens andre aspekter var overraskende. Venners betydning spiller størst rolle for ungdoms deltakelse, for alle aldersgrupper og begge kjønn uavhengig av lengde på deltakelse. Det sosiale aspektet har samtidig større betydning for jenter generelt og for alderen 14 og 15 år enn for de andre gruppene. Guttene og de yngste begrunner sin deltakelse i større grad med morsomme aktiviteter de kan gjøre der. Voksne som jobber på åpne møteplasser uttrykkes at spiller en større rolle for de eldste respondentene enn for de yngre. Det er ingen store forskjeller i begrunnelsen at åpne møteplasser er et bedre alternativ enn å være andre steder, eller at opplevelsen av mestring innenfor en aktivitet er påvirkende til respondentenes deltakelse. Prosjektet bidrar til å fylle temaets kunnskapshull, og gir et bilde av hva ungdom selv uttrykker er grunnen til at de bruker åpne møteplasser.

This master thesis is about youth´s own justifications for their participation in open youth work. The theme is based in a personal interest, and in the interest in lightning a theme in social work that research hasn´t covered earlier. The work is based on this issue: ”What is it with open youth work that makes youth maintain their participation? What does youth themselves justifiy their participation within the aspects regarding use of their leisure, the social aspect and the performance of activities?” The empirical material is based on collection of data through quantitative method. The questions to the respondents was asked through a question form, and collected through the program QuestBack. The theoretical material to the project is based on four areas: a scientifically placement to the understandment of the subject, placement to the used method, theory about the theme and previous research. The understandment of the theme is based in a social constructive thought of youth and development. The use of method is scientifically placed with Poppers deductive approach to the understandment of data. Theory and previous research surrounds around three categories; the social aspect, youths use of leisure, and the performance of activities. The analysis and the discussion view theese categories together with how long the respondents have participated, gender and age. The analysis of the data and the following discussion shows that some of the aspects gives the same picture as previous research, while others were more surprising. Friends significance matter the most for the participation for youth in general. In the same time is this aspect more important for girls in general and for the 14 and 15 year olds than for the other groups. The boys and the youngest justifies their participation more in the performance of activities they can do there. The youth express that the adults working in open youth work have a greater part for the older respondents than for the younger. There were no big differences that open youth work is a better alternative than being other places, or that the experience of success in an activity is influencing to the respondents participation. This project contribute to fill a gap in the previous research about the subject, and gives a picture of what youth themselves express is the reason for them using open youth work.
