| dc.description.abstract | Background: Due to the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, there is an elevated risk of mental health challenges among Palestinians, emphasising the necessity for tailored mental health care services. The study explores how healthcare professionals conceptualise traumatisation in the Palestinian context, and the significance of user involvement in therapeutic work when addressing patients facing mental health challenges. Hence the following research question ‘How do healthcare professionals conceptualise traumatisation and user participation within the context of the occupied Palestinian territory?’
Method: A qualitative design with a phenomenological-hermeneutic approach was applied. Participant observations and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 participants in the occupied Palestinian territory. Malterud´s four step analysis process was used to analyse the data.
Findings: The healthcare professionals face daily trauma from ongoing structural violence and occupation related acts, fostering a cycle of generational trauma, sense of hopelessness and fear in the community. Within the Palestinian context, its relevant to acknowledge that healthcare professionals are not immune to the impact of traumas. They actively seek guidance and support from their colleagues to navigate and cope with challenges in their therapeutic work. Despite facing personal traumas, these professionals, draw from their experiences to approach therapeutic work with deep empathy. They prioritize empowerment and user participation to cultivate resilience in their patients, fostering strengths and positivity living within a challenging context.
Conclusion: Healthcare professionals conceptualise traumatisation as a collective experience impacting individuals and the community. Their experiences shape an empowerment thinking and empathetic approach to therapeutic work, emphasising the significance of user participation.
Bakgrunn: Grunnet Israel–Palestina konflikten er det økt risiko for mentale helseutfordringer blant palestinere, noe som understreker behovet for skreddersydde mentale helsetjenester. Studien utforsker hvordan helsepersonell konseptualiserer traumatisering i den palestinske konteksten, samt betydningen av brukermedvirkning i det terapeutiske arbeidet i møte med pasienter som opplever mentale helseutfordringer. Derfor ble følgende forskningsspørsmål formet: «Hvordan konseptualiserer helsepersonell traumatisering og brukermedvirkning innenfor det okkuperte palestinske territoriet?»
Metode: Studien har et kvalitativt forskningsdesign, med en fenomenologisk-hermeneutisk tilnærming. Deltagende observasjon og semistrukturerte intervjuer ble gjennomført med 10 deltakere i det okkuperte palestinske territoriet. Analyseprosessen ble utført i tråd med Malteruds fire steg.
Resultater: Helsepersonell møter daglige traumer som følge av pågående strukturell vold og kontinuerlig traumatisering, dette fører til transgenerasjonelle traumer og en følelse av håpløshet og frykt i samfunnet. Innenfor den palestinske konteksten er det relevant å erkjenne at helsepersonell ikke er immune mot påvirkningen av traumer. De søker aktivt veiledning og støtte fra kollegaene sine for å håndtere utfordringer i sitt terapeutiske arbeid. Til tross for personlige traumer, bruker helsepersonell egne erfaringer hvor de tilnærmer seg praksis med dyp empati og forståelse. Empowerment og brukermedvirkning blir prioritert i det terapeutiske arbeidet for å dyrke motstandsdyktighet, styrker og positivitet hos pasienter som bor i en utfordrende kontekst.
Konklusjon: Helsepersonellet konseptualiserer traumatisering som en kollektiv erfaring som setter sitt preg på individer og det palestinske samfunnet. Deres erfaringer fungerer som en linse som fremmer empowerment tenkning og empati i deres terapeutiske arbeid, med vekt på betydningen av brukermedvirkning. | en_US |
