Abstract
This article provides an overview of the status and ongoing discussions within the area referred to as functional analyses. In addition, some important future directions are pointed out. Functional analysis has been an important topic in behavioral analysis for nearly eighty years. However, as pointed out in the article, the content and the meaning of the concept of functional analysis has changed character, more towards a functional analysis methodology. Furthermore, challenges regarding functional analyses are discussed based on the symposium at the annual meeting for Norwegian Association for Behavior Analysis seminar that was devoted to functional analyses. In addition, some key areas of future work on functional analyses, among other publications, are outlined.
