This paper reviews the literature on safety culture and provides a research on two different organizations in the construction industry. The first article focusses on research undertaken from 1990 and onwards. The concept of organizational culture is clarified since it is important to look at the safety culture as a part of the organizational culture. A distinction is drawn between functionalist and interpretive perspectives on organizational culture. Although safety culture is generally acknowledged to be an important concept, not much consensus has been reached when defining this concept. The second article looks at the safety culture at two different organizations against the main elements of a safety culture according to Reason (1997). Furthermore this paper provides some guidelines, from recognized theorists, on how achieving a positive safety culture.en_US
