The goal of the OASIS project is to learn how families and service systems may support autonomy and delay dependency in old age, in order to promote quality of life among the elderly and their caregivers, and improve the basis for policy and planning. This report introduces the background, research qurestions, and design of OASIS. The articles review earlier studies in the field, and present the conceptual frameworks used in this study, particularly the intergenerational solidarity and ambivalence paradigms and models of care systems and quality of life.More information about the OASIS project can be found at the project's home page: http://oasis.haifa.ac.il.no_NB
