Magnification is typically utilised to compensate for the limits of the human visual system. Although magnification is an essential tool in many professions, this chapter addresses its use among low vision users. A significant portion of the population have reduced vision, and most individuals will experience reduced vision during their lifetime as part of the ageing process, or temporarily due to illness. Advancement in computing technology during the last two decades has led to the evolution of several digital magnification technologies. Such technologies offer functionality that is not possible with traditional optical magnification devices. Adaptive interfaces and reflow have resulted in a paradigm shift in how low-vision users access magnified contents. This chapter introduces the main technologies, their benefits, opportunities, weaknesses, as well as open problems.
