YouTube Explainers, Explained. A Practical / Theoretical Analysis of YouTube Explainers and the Vox Style.

Abstract

In a world full of perplexing questions and pressing concerns, curiosity propels people to seek understanding. As the world grows more complex, the need for accessible explanations becomes increasingly important. In the midst of this, explainers on platforms such as YouTube offer clarity on different topics in an accessible and entertaining way.

This project is a practical/theoretical work aiming to explain YouTube explainers. It consists of a video production exploring different aspects and traits of YouTube explainers, a meta-explainer. The meta-explainer is inspired by the production style of Vox, a very influential producer in the genre. Along with the video, a theoretical reflection goes into further detail on the literature used and the process of producing the meta-explainer.

The aspects explored in this project encompass both philosophical and technical traits of YouTube explainers, coupled with my personal reflections on producing the meta-explainer.
