The role of social support in the relationship between self-reported mental health and life satisfaction among adults over 50 years of age in Norway.
Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to examine the associations between life satisfaction, social support and self-reported mental health among adults over 50 years of age in Norway. This study provides further evidence to support the role of social support (emotional support, practical support, social connectedness) and self-reported mental health on life satisfaction; however, the study will also provide evidence with regards to how this relation is moderated by one’s gender, age, and marital status. In this thesis I have performed a quantitative, cross-sectional analysis. The analysis is based on data from the second wave of the Norwegian Life Course, Ageing and Generation Study held between 2007-2008 (N=11,028; age 40-80 years.).
