When Ukrainian language teachers arrive in Norway, they face unique challenges, including a lack of recognition and integration within the school system, as well as barriers when working across multiple schools, hindering their ability to reach all newcomer students. To address these issues, this project developed an innovative participatory design workshop method called the NET-Workshop. The aim of this workshop is to support the creation of culturally relevant digital bilingual learning environments. The development of the workshop was guided by principles of participatory design followed by the Generic Model for conducting Educational Design Research (McKenney & Reeves, 2018). Additionally, theoretical concepts related to Collaborative Learning (Stahl, 2006), Intersubjective Meaning-Making, Technology Affordances (Suthers, 2006), and Future Technologies Workshop (Vavoula & Sharples, 2007). This design process contributes to the field of participatory design by introducing a method that emphasizes inclusivity, cultural sensitivity, and the effective use of online collaborative tools. By designing an online workshop, the project presents a scalable and adaptable approach, offering potential for future advancements in the creation of culturally relevant digital learning environments tailored to diverse educational contexts involving newcomer teachers.
