Challenges faced by Rohingya adolescents regarding access to formal education: A study in refugee camps in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh.
Abstract
This research investigates the educational challenges faced by Rohingya teenagers in Cox's Bazar refugee camps, particularly those aged 14 and above. These adolescents are confronted with challenges such as, lack of an organized schooling system, insufficient resources, a shortage of trained educators, and socio-cultural obligations, all of which impede their access to education. Although the MCP was introduced to address these challenges, the appearance of COVID-19 prolonged educational disruptions in camps. These all together make educational opportunities even more challenging for teenage girls.
The qualitative methods are used to explore the systemic and structural issues that contribute to these impediments, shedding light on a noticeable lack of attention given to older teenagers by NGOs and authorities that primarily concentrate on young children. The study also highlights gaps in data and potential biases due to indirect information gathering, emphasizing the need for direct research to surely assess the educational landscape.
