Automation in Systematic Literature Searching: Assessing current methods and future development
Abstract
This study investigates automation methods in systematic literature search production, with the aim of collecting and categorizing automation methods applicable in systematic literature searches, discussing the state of automation and future opportunities. To answer the research question, a comprehensive literature search identified papers describing automation tools in the systematic review process. The study identified methods that are currently functional and implementable, methods that can be useful in future developments, and considerations important for implementation. The results highlight opportunities in duplicate removal and literature search- oriented text analysis tools like MeSH recommender systems. Future development includes promising language models, improved review management software, enhanced automation in search string creation, and advanced text analysis tools for central terminology retrieval. The study emphasizes the importance of technical expertise and user- friendly interfaces for successful implementation.
