Hva ligger til grunn for kroppsøvingslæreres undervisningspraksis og deres syn på faget? En kvalitativ undersøkelse av fem kroppsøvingslærere på én videregående skole

Abstract

Dette forskningsprosjektet tar utgangspunkt i fem kroppsøvingslærere på én videregående skole. Studien sikter på å belyse hvilke faktorer som har betydning for deltakernes undervisningspraksis og syn på kroppsøvingsfaget. På bakgrunn av dette lyder problemstillingen for oppgaven følgende: «Hva ligger til grunn for kroppsøvingslæreres undervisningspraksis og deres syn på faget?». For å tydeliggjøre tema for oppgaven samt styrke muligheten for å besvare problemstillingen ble det utviklet totalt tre forskningsspørsmål: Forskningsspørsmål 1: Hva ligger til grunn for informantenes ønske om å arbeide som kroppsøvingslærer? Forskningsspørsmål 2: Hvordan kommer informantenes utdanningsbaserte erfaring til uttrykk i rollen som kroppsøvingslærer? Forskningsspørsmål 3: Hva har bidratt til å forme informantene som kroppsøvingslærere i møte med arbeidslivet? Forskningsprosjektet er basert på en kvalitativ forskningstilnærming med semistruktert intervjuer som metode. Intervjuene ble utført individuelt med de ulike deltakerne der målet var å danne dyp forståelse av hvert enkelt individs bakgrunn, undervisningspraksis og syn på kroppsøvingsfaget. Data som ble samlet inn ble senere transkribert og analysert med utgangspunkt i induktiv temaanalytisk tilnærming i søken om relevante funn tilknyttet problemstillingen for oppgaven. Funnene i analysen ble deretter kategorisert inn i fem kategorier: (1) yrkesvalg basert på idrettsinteresse, (2) undervisningsinnhold basert på tidligere erfaringer med faget, (3) Lite betydningsfull utdanning, (4) Et ønske om å tilpasse seg lærergruppen best mulig, raskest mulig og (5) Imitasjon av tidligere lærere Studiens funn viser til at deltakerne i forskingsprosjektet baserer i stor grad sitt yrkesvalg på deres idrettsinteresse og lokale tilhørighet til den aktuelle skolen i denne studien. Det blir også belyst at valg av undervisningsinnhold kan ses i sammenheng med aktiviteter deltakernes trivdes med og mestret fra et elevperspektiv i kroppsøvingsfaget. I analysen vokste det også frem likhetstrekk ved tidligere studier gjennomført av Kåre Heggen (2005) som tilsier at utdanningen til deltakerne spiller en liten roller i deres undervisningspraksis og syn på faget. Det vil belyst interessante funn som omhandler deltakernes møte med et eksisterende læremiljø. Funnene i analysen tyder på store likhetstrekk ved implementeringsmetoden til deltakerne hvor flesteparten ønsket å tilpasse seg det eksisterende læremiljøet. Det vil også bli belyst funn i studien som omhandler betydningen en felles tidligere lærer har hatt for deltakernes valg av yrke, undervisningspraksis og syn på faget. I tillegg skal vi se hvordan verdier og holdninger kan videreføres indirekte til et annet menneske. Til slutt vil det bli belyst aktuelle funn som beskriver deltakernes syn på kroppsøvingsfagets utvikling og hvilken påvirkning dette har for deres undervisningspraksis. Forskningsprosjekter sikter på å belyse deltakernes individuelle synspunktet og meninger rundt det aktuelle tema for oppgaven. I tillegg vil det bli fremlagt likhetstrekk mellom deltakerne og hvilken betydning kollegiale forhold har for den enkeltes undervisningspraksis og syn på faget. Den teoretiske forankringen for oppgaven tar utgangpunkt i Pirre Bourdieu sine sentrale begreper. Begrepene blir belyst i to hovedkategorier som omhandler subjektive og objektive strukturer. I tillegg vil det bli gjort rede for teori som omhandler profesjonell kunnskap og profesjonell identitet fra et kroppsøvingslærers perspektiv. Studien sikter på å se sammenhengen mellom funnene i analysen og den teoretiske forankringen for oppgaven.

This research project is based on five physical education teachers at a high school. The study aims to shed light on the factors that are important for the participants' teaching practice and views on the physical education subject. On the basis of this, the problem for the thesis is the following: «What is the basis for physical educators teaching practice and their perspective on the subject?». In order to clarify the topic of the thesis and strengthen the possibility of answering the problem, a total of three research questions were developed: 1) What is the basis for the informants' desire to work as a physical education teacher? 2) How is the informants' education-based experience expressed in the role of physical education teacher? 3) What has helped to shape the informants as physical education teachers in the face of working life? The research project is based on a qualitative research approach with semi-structured interviews as a method. The interviews were conducted individually with the various participants where the goal was to form a deep understanding of each individual's background, teaching practice and views on the physical education subject. Data collected were later transcribed and analyzed on the basis of an inductive thematic analytical approach in the search for relevant findings related to the problem for the thesis. The findings in the analysis were then categorized into five categories: (1) Career choice based on sports interest, (2 Teaching content based on previous experience with the subject, (3 less significant education, (4) A desire to adapt to the teaching group in the best possible way, as quickly as possible, (5)Imitation of former physical education teachers. The study's findings indicate that the participants in the research project largely base their choice of profession on their sports interest and local affiliation with the school in question in this study. It is also highlighted that the choice of teaching content can be seen in connection with activities the participants enjoyed and mastered from a student perspective in the physical education subject. In the analysis, similarities also emerged from previous studies conducted by Kaare Heggen (2005), which indicate that the education of the participants plays a small role in their teaching practice and views on the subject. It will shed light on interesting findings concerning the participants' encounter with an existing learning environment. The findings in the analysis indicate great similarities in the implementation 5 method of the participants, where the majority wanted to adapt to the existing learning environment. Findings will also be highlighted in the study that deal with the importance a common former teacher has had for the participants' choice of profession, teaching practice and view of the subject. In addition, we will see how values and attitudes can be passed on indirectly to another human being. Finally, current findings that describe the participants' views on the development of the physical education subject and the impact this has on their teaching practice will be elucidated. Research projects aim to shed light on the participants' individual point of view and opinions on the relevant topic of the thesis. In addition, similarities will be presented between the participants and the significance of collegial relationships for the individual teaching practice and views on the subject. The theoretical basis for the thesis is based on Pierre Bourdieu's central concepts. The concepts are elucidated in two main categories that deal with subjective and objective structures. In addition, theory that deals with professional knowledge and professional identity from a physical education teacher's perspective will be explained. The study aims to see the connection between the findings in the analysis and the theoretical basis for the thesis.
