The purpose of this master’s thesis is to study work inclusion for immigrants from the global south who’s completed higher education abroad. The focus will be on case workers in NAV’s experiences with guidance of this group, and cooperating with this group in general. The research question is “What does case workers in NAV perceive as obstacles and opportunities for immigrants from the global south who’s completed higher education abroad when guiding them into a relevant job?”. This question seeks to identify obstacles the group meets when approaching the job market, and which opportunities the case workers have to help dem. To answer the question there’s been completed one interview with five informants from NAV and one interview with two informants from NOKUT. This thesis uses qualitative methods. To analyze the interviews, and the literature, it will be used a thematic analysis. Findings from the study shows that there’s individual and structural obstacles who contribute to keep the immigrants from work inclusion. The findings are that lack of knowledge of cultural codes, language, a lack of a social and/or professional network, overqualification, inadequate guidance from case workers, discrimination, lack of approval of the completed education and the corona pandemic. The opportunities are work training, mentor program, approval of education, specialist competence and other concrete tools, like a mapping form. The conclusion is that guidance of this group demands competence on a wide field, both regarding their immigrant background and their education. It’s possible to solve the obstacles with a specialist role. At the same time the structural obstacles demand a political structural change.en_US
