This evaluation study explores the effect of Circle of Security (COS–P), but operates with a nonlinear qualitative understanding of its effects. This entails that the study is focusing on both the expected effects of the project and the general experience of its informants. The goal of the study is to give insight into how this American parent-reflection program works in a Norwegian setting. The study consists of qualitative interviews of eight parents of children between the age 0-5 living in the municipality of Bærum. The experience of the parents is explored retroactively since the interviews are made after the end of the program. One of several characteristics of parents of today is that they are exposed to large chunks of information due to a general increase in information exchange. The informants of this study all had high expectations to their parenthood before the program. The value of the Circle of Security Parenting program according to the informants consists of the opportunity of exploring the dynamics of the child-parent relationship rather than just receiving advice and recommendations. The experience of a well functioning group process is that the informants get to normalize their experiences as a parent and as a result feel safer in their role as caregiver. The Circle of Security program is built on attachment theory. The manual is developed in the US by Glenn Cooper, Kent Hoffman, Burt Powell, and was implemented in Norway in 2010 by Stig Torsteinson and Ida Brandtzæg. The American origin of the program makes some of its examples seem odd, excessive or idealized according to the informants. One core assumption that this study has produced is that the group leaders use of website Folkom in addition to their own examples, acts like a cultural filter. The non-recognizable examples gets less significance when the program theory is mediated in an recognizable Norwegian context. The positive experiences of the informants is a combination of the original psychoeducation thinking being continued, but at the same time filtrated through interplay and reflections from a recognizable context, in addition to the use of the graphic representation of the Circle of Security program. The results of the present study indicate that the program can be recommended the way it is implemented today in resemblant populations in the future.en
