Master i estetiske fagen
This Master's thesis explore how real life events and life stories can be applied and transformed into theatre script. The creative process of playwriting is explored, and the chosen dramaturgical strategies are emphasized. This is artistic research that research on and through the arts using qualitative methods. The true life story applied in this thesis is the story of how my grandmother and grandfather met as patients at a tuberculosis hospital. Their memories are obtained by qualitative interviewing. Document analysis has been used to find further information about tuberculosis and sanatoriums. To document the progress, I have written an autoethnography on the process of manuscript writing. In the assessment of the autoethnography I found the chosen dramaturgical strategies. The dramaturgical strategies found to be most important in the script are evaluated in regard to theory. The majority of the theory applied in this thesis is perspectives on dramaturgy, both theatre and screen theory. The research presents an insight to an artistic process of play writing, where the writer whish to preserve and retell a narrative before the voices get lost, thus, preserving a piece of history which otherwise would be lost unless told.en
