Master i familiebehandlinglanguage
In this master’s thesis I will investigate some aspects with what is experienced helpful in systematically founded therapy with families. I have chosen to do so by interviewing parents who have participated in a therapeutic multifamily group at my workplace. I wish to explore how participants in family therapy supplement meaning during treatment, a long time after treatment has ended, and what they mean the treatment assisted them in their lives. To do this I have interviewed parents who have participated in a specific family therapeutic treatment program, in the form of multifamily groups. The specific issue is: What do the parents remember as meaningful from the course of treatment, how did they state this meaning, and on what level do they mean the treatment has had a long lasting impact on their lives? All the informants were concerned about the community and relations. With a background in the negative experience they had brought with them from before they came to the Family school, they experienced a difference in how they were met and accepted at the Family school. The meaning of relations and community are moments the informants themselves say they have brought with them onwards as time has progressed after they went to the Family school. They describe that the ways they were met and accepted at the Family school, has assisted them in retrospect, in their own understanding of themselves and their children. They don’t have the experience of having a child that’s "abnormal". They experience themselves as good parents and they have throughout their time at the Family school seen that the problem was something they had no influence over, something they alongside the other parents and therapists could work together to find a common understanding of. The unity and the relations within the group are also pulled forwards as a resource in the experience that there are other people who experience the same thing. This recognition is something they have needed further in their own lives, together with not being biased or judging over new people they meet.language
