The aim of this study is to investigate what, how and to what extent social technologies are used for creating and sharing of knowledge. This thesis is based on a qualitative case study conducted at EVRY, a companie that provide IT services to both public and private sectors. This included eight semi-structured interviews with different employees. My research shows that social technologies can contribute to the development and sharing of knowledge. By using virtual communities of practice, EVRY can achieve a hybrid strategy with a high degree of codified and personalized knowledge strategy. Here employees can identify expertise, facilitate communication across the organization and retain knowledge. Along with social technologies in external networks, their knowledge spiral can stretch beyond organizational boundaries. Nevertheless I made a key discovery that traditional tools and methods for knowledge sharing, despite the above hybrid strategy, is used to a greater extent than social technologies. By seeing this in the context of challenges to the existing knowledge strategy, my research shows the importance of organizational support for using social Technologies.en_US
