benytter for å imøtekomme sine behov.
Bibliotekarene opplevde i stor grad
In this master thesis I have examined the information behaviour of academic
librarians at the Humanities and Social Sciences Library and the Science Library at the
University of Oslo. Through the use of research diaries and qualitative interviews I have
examined the information behaviour of eight librarians at the two libraries. I have looked at
what information needs the librarians experience in different work situations and what
strategies they use to meet these needs. In addition, I have looked at how the librarians
experience collaboration between librarians in different organizations in Norway.
The librarians experience different information needs depending on what tasks they are
performing. In essence these can be summarized as system oriented information needs,
information needs related to users and information needs in the reference situation. To
meet these needs the librarians use different strategies. These can be summarized as use of
self-acquired information, use of digital sources and channels, and use of personal
communication. The librarians largely found it easy to collaborate with other librarians and
experienced a willingness to share information. The thesis also shows that environment plays
an important part in their information behavior.
