Lærerkompetanse i trearbeid. En undersøkelse av faglærerutdanningen i design, kunst og håndverk v/HSN og HiOA

Abstract

Denne masteravhandlingens overordnede tema er lærerkompetanse i trearbeid. Undersøkelsen dreier seg om kompetanse, verdsetting og undervisning ved faglærerutdanningen i design, kunst og håndverk ved Høgskolen i Sørøst-Norge, Notodden og Høgskolen i Oslo og Akershus. For å undersøke dette har følgende problemstilling blitt stilt: Hvordan er opplæring i trearbeid verdsatt ved landets faglærerutdanninger i design, kunst og håndverk, - hva er faglærernes erfaring med opplæringen de har fått på fagområdet, og hvordan vurderer de egen kompetanse i trearbeid for undervisning i grunnskolen? Problemstillingen blir belyst gjennom et dybdeintervju med to av lærerne som underviser i trearbeid ved de to høgskoleinstitusjonene. For å få en innsikt i hvilken erfaring uteksaminerte studenter sitter med, og hvordan de vurderer egen kompetanse i trearbeid for opplæring i grunnskolen, blir en kvalitativ spørreundersøkelse benyttet. Ved å bruke både kvalitativ og kvantitativ metode gir avhandlingen et innblikk i hvordan undervisningssituasjonen i trearbeid er både ved de to høgskolene, men også hvilke erfaringer og tanker faglærere i kunst og håndverk har fra grunnskoleopplæringen i norsk skole. Det praktisk-estetiske arbeidet er presentert i oppgaven i form av bilder for å markere kapitlene i avhandlingen, i tillegg til å fremheve prosjektets tematikk. Arbeidene vil vises sammen med flere selvlagde gjenstander på masterutstillingen. Det praktisk-estetiske arbeidet i dette prosjektet er enkle bruksgjenstander, skjeer og skåler, laget med tradisjonelle håndverksteknikker som er tilpasset til undervisning på grunnskolenivå. Gjennom året har jeg jobbet både teoretisk og praktisk på verkstedet, og har jevnlig publisert bilder og video på en Instagramkonto, «straight.from.the.woods», som per dags dato har om lag 300 følgere (21.04.2017). Mitt arbeid har også blitt brukt som eksempel og inspirasjon på en barneskole i Oslo.

This master thesis overarching theme is teacher competence in woodworking. The research revolves around skills, appreciation and teaching by specialised teacher in design, arts and crafts at the University College of Southeast Norway (USN), Notodden and Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences. To examine this, the following research question has been posed: How is the training in woodworking valued at the national Specialised Teacher Training in Design, Arts and Crafts education, - what are the teachers experience with the training they have received on the field, and how do they evaluate their own skills in woodworking for teaching in primary schools? The research question will be explained through in-depth interviews with two of the teachers who teach woodworking at the two university college institutions. To get an insight into the experience graduates have, and how they evaluate their own skills in woodworking for education in primary schools, a qualitative survey was used. By using both qualitative and quantitative methods, the thesis provides a glimpse of how the teaching situation in woodworking is both at the two university colleges, but also the experiences and thoughts teachers in arts and crafts have from the teaching at primary schools in Norway. The practical and aesthetic work is presented in the thesis in the form of images to mark chapters of the thesis, in addition to highlighting the project's theme. The woodcrafted pieces will be displayed along with several self-made objects on the master exhibition. The practical and aesthetic work in this project are simple everyday objects such as spoons and bowls made with traditional handcraft techniques that are adapted to teaching at primary school level. Throughout the year I have worked both theoretically and practically in the workshop, and has regularly published photos and video on a Instagram account: «straight.from.the.woods», which currently has approximately 300 followers (21.04.2017). My work has also been used as an example and inspiration in a primary school in Oslo.
