offentlige virksomheter. Men, hvordan utformer organisasjoner sine strategier?
rammeverket. | en_US |
dc.description.abstract | Development of strategy in nonprofit associations, foundations and cooperatives:
What affects development of strategies?
Strategy is stuck in traditional perspectives and needs a renewal, says Richard Whittington.
The traditional perspectives are too narrow and are no longer adequate in explaining how
broad strategy development actually occurs. Henry Mintzberg believes it may be useful to
examine governance models in other organizational forms than typical private and public
enterprises. But how do organizations develop their strategies? Formulation of strategy is the
black box in the strategy process. Mintzberg´s comprehensive theoretical framework for
designing strategies provides a tool to investigate this further. The purpose of this thesis is to
study the design of the strategy in associations, foundations and cooperatives and examine
various factors that may affect the design of strategies. The findings are compared against the
assumptions of the theory. The study is a case study and the survey consists of a document
analysis of 18 organizations and semi-structured interviews with representatives from eight
organizations. The results of these two studies give the opportunity to compare the
development of strategy in organizations and examine various background variables that can
affect the development of strategies. I find that organizations use several different strategy
schools. There is more use of the descriptive strategy schools than the normative strategy
schools. The findings suggest that organizational form and degree of stability in environments
affects how organizations develop their strategies. This supports the theoretical framework. | en_US |
